Thread Title: Accutane from Canada Is It Safe?
Posted by: SkinSavior123Hi everyone,
Ive been struggling with severe acne for years and my dermatologist recently recommended I try Accutane. However, the cost here in the U.S. is insane! I found a Canadian pharmacy online that offers it at a much cheaper price. Is there anyone who has bought Accutane from Canada? How safe are these medications?
Thank you so much!
Reply by: HealthyHannahHey SkinSavior123,
Ive actually had experience with buying medication from Canada, but not specifically Accutane. From what I understand, many people find its a bit cheaper and they generally have good experiences as long as the pharmacy is reputable.
My advice would be to check out organizations like the Canadian International Pharmacy Association (CIPA) for approved pharmacies. Also, make sure you get your prescription from an actual doctor in the U.S., not just some online clinic without face-to-face consultation. Its a bit safer that way!
Good luck and hope it helps with your skin!
Reply by: DermDoc87Hello SkinSavior123,
I am a dermatologist, so I can provide you with some insights on this matter.
Accutane (isotretinoin) is indeed an effective treatment for severe acne. However, there are several safety concerns and side effects associated with the drug that need to be monitored by your healthcare provider. The FDA requires strict regulations, including regular blood tests and follow-ups to ensure patient safety.
When it comes to purchasing Accutane from Canada or any other international pharmacy, heres what you should consider:
- Regulatory Compliance: Medications sold in Canada are regulated differently than those in the U.S. This means there could be variations in how the drug is manufactured and tested.
- Prescription Requirements: In the U.S., Accutane requires a prescription from a licensed dermatologist or doctor who can monitor your health closely during treatment. If you buy it online, ensure that the pharmacy follows these same guidelines for prescription verification.
- Counterfeit Risk: Unfortunately, there is always a risk of counterfeit medication when buying from outside legitimate pharmacies.
Given these points, my recommendation would be to purchase Accutane through a licensed pharmacist in the U.S., even though it might be more expensive. Its crucial that you are monitored closely by your dermatologist and that any potential side effects can be managed safely.
I hope this helps! If you have further questions about Accutane or acne treatment, feel free to ask!
Reply by: SkinSavior123Thank you so much for the detailed responses, HealthyHannah and DermDoc87. I really appreciate your insights. DermDoc87, your advice is quite reassuring.
Ill definitely consider purchasing from a reputable pharmacy in the U.S., even if its more expensive. My health and safety are my top priorities. Do you have any tips on how to manage the cost while still ensuring quality?
Reply by: HealthyHannahHey SkinSavior123,
That's a great attitude! Here are a few ideas that might help with managing costs:
- Patient Assistance Programs (PAPs): Many drug manufacturers offer financial assistance programs for those who can't afford their medications. Check if theres a program available specifically for Accutane.
- Generic Versions: Sometimes, you might find generic versions of isotretinoin which could be less expensive than the brand name.
- Pharmacy Coupons and Discounts: Some pharmacies offer coupons or discounts on certain medications. It's worth checking with different pharmacies to see if they have any deals.
Good luck with your treatment!

In addition to what HealthyHannah mentioned:
- Insurance Coverage: Check with your insurance provider to see if Accutane is covered under your plan. Sometimes it might be partially or fully covered depending on the severity of your condition.
- Payment Plans: Some pharmacies offer payment plans that allow you to pay for the medication over time, rather than all at once.
It's important to discuss these options with both your dermatologist and insurance provider to find a solution that works best for you. Your health is paramount, so always prioritize safe and effective treatment.
I wish you all the best in managing your acne!
